Mediterranean: Easy Decorating Tips To Create a Warm and Welcoming Tuscan Theme
A Mediterranean home is truly more than a residence - it is in effect, an estate. The Mediterranean is the lands and islands bordering the Mediterranean Sea. We use the term Mediterranean meaning anything that reminds us of the lands, people and cultures near the Mediterranean Sea itself. The Mediterranean climate is warm, as are the colors we use to create a Mediterranean feel in our homes. The warm hues and rustic materials from cultures north of the Mediterranean Sea are the foundations to this design’s key elements.
Like the offerings available through the Amish furniture crafters, the furniture used in Mediterranean-style decors range from simply functional to extremely formal. The Francisco is a perfect example of a formal yet comfortable dining room table that is of the Old World styles that make you want to dine in. The “Francisco” table has a column trestle design and distressed finished base. A burnished table top edge completes the look. This table has the ability to expand to accommodate four additional leaves, which gives a seating capacity of twelve people. Wine and bruschetta served by the fireplace before dinner and cannoli and espressos for desert on the patio complete a Mediterranean dinner party you hold around the Francisco.
A warm inviting sitting area is essential for entertaining in a Mediterranean home. Creating the feel of an Italian piazza, including a water element such as a fountain, sets the mood. Textured walls show up as common design details in the Mediterranean home. Architectural details like stucco-covered walls, raised planters with benches and sandstone paving create the illusion of the estate by the sea. Natural stone countertops and fireplace mantels bring the outdoors and create the feel of the estate owner’s personal patio.
A custom bed like the “Wrap Around” furnishes the main attraction in the master suite. Iron pieces like the kind crafted in Morocco, strategically placed candles, and rugs in warm tones can add to the atmosphere but the “Wrap Around” bed will be the star of the room. Because the “Wrap Around Bed” is magnificent in design it will catch anyone’s eye and can be built in several choices of woods and stains.
An elegant touch is the application of Spanish tiles, Travertine marble or faux painting. Adobe walls painted in earth tones or turquoise-blue ceilings create the naturally organic feel of a Mediterranean home. Using wall sconces and softly lit lamps will create a warm shadow in the room. The ambience of the region’s warm and cool colors as well as rustic textures create a comfortable environment for family dining. Using a mix of restored or distressed accessories will add a custom designer’s touch to your carefully chosen Amish hardwood Mediterranean creations.
