Five Memorable Thanksgiving Table Place Cards and Take Home Favor Ideas

Thanksgiving may be the most well intended holiday we host. What more could be asked from a holiday than good friends, family and food? We have signified a day and set aside time for communal dining while remembering how fortunate we are to see one another seated another year around the dining table. This year, to show you thought of each and every person there sharing your bounties, why not create thoughtful and simple place markers for each guest? These tags will also double as take-home favors for all the visitors.

1. At any dollar store you can purchase very nice small, inexpensive picture frames to display photos of each of your guests. A family member with a digital camera can gather the crew together before dinner for a yearly photo. Then, while everyone is enjoying appetizers and waiting for the main course, simply print from your home computer a color copy of the photo to fit in the frame. Stick a name tag in front of the glass and place one at each seat for a great memory sharing gift.

2. Make a small cardstock binder for each place. Ask everyone to write a short note or story telling each person why they’re thankful he or she is in their life. Create a small booklet for each place setting and then encourage everyone to read aloud these heartfelt gifts of words.

3. If your family participates in the shopping spree known as “Black Friday” purchase inexpensive personal receipt organizers for use during the holiday shopping season. Print a personal name label, include the year for their records, and attach to each one.

4. A thanksgiving tree is a wonderful family tradition. Plant a branch in a pot as a center piece. Place dye cuts in hand shapes, made from colorful construction paper at each seat. On one side write your guest’s name and on the other leave it blank. Place a nice pen as a take-home favor on each plate. During the meal ask each guest to write what they are most thankful for and clip it to the tree with colored paper clips or clothespins. Seeing a tree full of blessings makes a great conversation starter and a visual aid to realize how fortunate we are.

5. Create a recipe book with a cover crafted to remember the feast – perhaps a snap shot taken of the meal and quickly printed from the home computer. Everyone who brought a dish can create and send you the recipe beforehand to publish a simple memorial cookbook gift. Be sure and give credits to each cook. If they didn’t actually cook, but perhaps bought the dish or dessert, a little humor can be added by giving their “recipe” for buying the ideal contribution. For example, you could right the recipe as:

Add two gallons of gas to a 10 minute cell phone call. Blend in  $15.00…well, you get the idea.
