Improving Your Home Office Computer Desk Station: How To Solve Problems With Your Wireless Internet Connection
There is only one thing that can take the glow off of your new hardwood, Amish custom-built computer desk, computer roll top, computer armoire or computer office center – a bad wireless connection. You were careful enough to purchase the best for you office when you selected the impeccably designed computer desk station and all the sundries for your workspace and computer use. A little knowledge in how to improve connectivity may prevent future frustrations when trying to access the internet via the Wi-Fi router you invested in and painstakingly set up.
- NETWORK CONNECTIONS AND NAME SERVERS:
Check to be certain that your network connection options are configured for automatic DNS and IP assignments. Domain Name Servers (DNS) are what translates a web site’s URL address, such Amishtables.com. If you travel with your laptop, you may encounter wireless networks that will want you to use a specific and different name server than at home.
- MANAGE YOUR AUTOMATIC CONNECTIONS:
Every time you connect to a new wireless network Windows lists it in your preferred connection collection. Because they do not delete automatically, if you are in the same geography as any of them, you may connect to one that you did not intend to. This can result in slower speeds and possible security issues. Windows does allow you to put this collection in order of preference by accessing your WIRELESS NETWORK CONNECTION icon in the System Tray.
- BETTER WAYS TO CONNECT:
Believe it or not a built-in wireless adapter, or an internal one, may have a poor antennae. This shortcoming in design may shorten the range of a wireless network. Also, by sticking with the internal adapter you may be accepting an older and out-dated technology. External adapters, such as USB or plug-in cards, may have an advantage of being able to be updated for more stable and definitely faster connection. The external adapter may also cut down on outside interference from other networks, wireless telephones and things you may never consider a problem, like neon signs.
- CONNECTION FAILED? :
If you cannot connect look at your WIRELESS NETWORK CONNECTION icon in the System Tray. Is there a red X? This means that your wireless adapter has been disabled. Click on the WIRELESS NETWORK CONNECTION icon in the System Tray. Using the Network Connection icon, right click the icon for the target connection, now select ENABLE. In about a minute you are online once again.
- THINK FAST…THINK HIGH SPEED:
You simply will not achieve the best signal strength without achieving speed. Stalling, sluggishness, disconnection are all signs that the signal is not strong enough. Luckily, because you are wireless, sometimes simply repositioning the router, the computer or even moving them can resolve the issue. By using the WIRELESS NETWORK CONNECTION icon in the System Tray you can view your signal strength and even choose a different network connection, if necessary.
- UPDATE YOUR DRIVERS:
Small software codes called drivers can affect your connection. In the high speed world of wireless networks, drivers are consistently and constantly being brought up to par. Use your manufacturer’s website to update drivers on a regular basis. For your protection, save copies of the older drivers on you laptop or a CD. Newer versions may not prove to be what they ought to be and an older version may be more reliable.
Enjoying your office, as well as your computer, will ensure that you use your well designed space. With a good wireless connection you can sit back in your office chair in front of your high quality computer desk station and wirelessly and seamlessly sail through the internet, frustration free.
