Who Are The Amish? The Amish movement was founded in Europe by Jacob Amman, from whom their name is derived. In many ways, The Amish religion started as a reform group within the Mennonite movement -- an attempt to restore some of the early practices of the Mennonites. During the late 17th century, they separated because of what they perceived as a lack of discipline among the Mennonites. Some Amish migrated to the United States, starting in the early 18th century. They initially settled in Pennsylvania and eventually radiated to other states.The faith group has attempted to preserve the elements of late 17th century European rural culture. They try to avoid many of the features of modern society, by developing practices and behaviors which isolate themselves from American culture. "I just love my new table. It is huge and fits 12 guests with ease. Plus it is the best sewing table in the world..at 134" I have all sorts of room to sew and lay out fabric or have my sewing group over to sew weekly is truly amazing that we all have room to spread out. I did purchase table pads to protect the table top. Of course I only had 6 chairs from my old set and found 6 more on ebay which I think go just fine until I can afford to buy matching chairs someday. The table is so well constructed of high quality wood. ( it weighs a ton)..It was delivered as promised with no defects or problems. I can't believe how well the wood matches up to my existing china cabinet and chairs. I would definitely buy again from Amish tables and have recommended Amish tables to others.
