FAQ

What gives the Cambridge its old world look?

The mission edge, sturdy trestle base, and strong rectangular top echo historical refectory tables, while the handcrafted hardwood construction brings modern longevity.

How long can the Cambridge Trestle Table extend?

With up to twelve 12 inch leaves, the table can expand significantly, providing dining space for large gatherings and special events.

Can this table self store leaves?

Yes. The table can self store up to four leaves depending on the size selected. Storage must be specified when you place your order.

How many people can the Cambridge seat?

The base sizes typically seat 4 to 6 guests. With extensions, the table can host large gatherings, making it ideal for holidays and celebrations.

Why does the table include drop down legs?

When extended with more than four leaves, the table benefits from additional stability. Drop down legs provide this support only when needed.

Which wood type suits a mission style table?

Rustic Cherry, Quarter Sawn White Oak, and Red Oak highlight the vertical and linear grain patterns associated with traditional mission furniture.

What is the typical lead time?

Handcrafted dining tables usually take about 8 to 12 weeks. Quality takes time, and your table will be made to order.

Seating Tips

Trestle Tables

Seating around the H-frame base can offer a little bit of a challenge.

A 60” table with a trestle base can only fit one person between the base supports, so it typically seats 4 people, while other styles can seat up to 6. Larger sizes like 66” and 72” can fit two people between the supports, allowing for about 6 seats, while other styles may seat up to 8.

Some of our tables can also expand to accommodate up to 18–20 people with the addition of drop-down support legs.

We also recommend adding a leaf at all times to increase the clearance at the ends of the table, for adequate knee clearance.

Drop Down Legs

For tables with five or more extensions, our builders add drop down legs to allow stability at extended lengths. The legs use hinges at the top and they can fold under the top and rest on the mounting plates when not in use. They only need to be used when the table is extended with more than 4 leaves.

Geared table slides

Geared table slides are used on tables with 1 - 4 leaves (unless otherwise noted). These slides allow for ease of use when opening and closing. They cannot be used on tables with 5 or more extensions.

Wooden Table slides

For Tables with five or more extensions, we use wooden tables. These are lighter-weight than the geared extensions and allow for the telescoping function needed to expand to hold up to 12 extensions.
